Dresscode

Dress Code

During certain BIL activities, participants will be asked to adhere to certain dress codes. We do this because we want to project professionalism to the people and organizations we come into contact with. Additionally, the dress code is present to respect the various norms regarding what it means to be dressed decently as best as possible. For BIL, this is important to maintain its good relationships with partners and to be taken seriously by others. The dress code is designed so that everyone is dressed appropriately and also knows what this entails. We want to be consistent with the dress code so that the same rules apply to everyone, but this also means that we sometimes have to be strict about what is and is not allowed. We have an informal, business-casual, and formal dress code. When and if a dress code applies to an activity, it will be communicated to the participants in advance.

Informal

There are no restrictions with the informal dress code. Nevertheless, we hope that you will not dress in a way that could harm the representation of BIL.

Business-casual

With a business-casual dress code, you wear a plain colored neat pants or a representative skirt (without stripes or checks), without tears or holes, possibly in combination with a blazer. You wear this together with a white or light blue shirt/blouse tucked into your pants, nice shoes (no sneakers), and a BIL tie/pin. A suitable dress is also allowed.

Formal

With a formal dress code, you either wear a plain colored two-piece suit or a suitable dress. A suit consists of a blazer and suit pants/skirt. The colors of the blazer and pants/skirt must match and be in a dark shade. You wear this together with a white or light blue shirt/blouse and a properly tied BIL tie/pin. Finally, you wear high socks and neat leather or suede shoes in dark colors with the suit. A dress must be dark in color and fall over the shoulders and knees. With a dress, you wear dark-colored heels or nice black shoes together with a properly attached BIL pin. Black ankle boots are also accepted per exception.

BIL tie and pin

The BIL tie and BIL pin can be purchased at the BIL office located at Wijnhaven in The Hague. The price of a tie is €10.00 and a pin costs €3.50.
